I Knew You by Name: The Search for My Lost Mother by Peggy Barnes
Why I Wrote this Book:
After my adoptive parents died, I discovered I had been born to an unwed mother who lived in the back hills of Alabama. After a long difficult search, I met with distant relatives who had the proverbial trunk in the attic—filled with my mother’s heartbreaking diaries and letters. Amazingly, much of our lives turned out to be similar. I wrote all I could about her life to better understand mine. I guess you could say—the book is a love story to my mother.
